Hebrews 11:20

Esau and Jacob were twins.  Esau was the firstborn, but God told their mother, Rebekah, “…the older shall serve the younger” (Genesis 25:23e).  This showed God’s favor on the younger rather than the older, breaking man’s tradition of the older receiving the birthright and blessing of their father.  Isaac gave his blessing to Jacob through faith which fulfilled what God had told his wife Rebekah before the children were born.  In contradiction to man’s belief, God’s election has the final say (Romans 9:10-13).  The older son was not the son to continue the promise, but the younger through faith in God and His desires.

This is an example that God works in ways in which we do not understand, but through our faith in Him we can give up our desires and seek His desires for our lives…in Christ.

A big part of our faith in God is trusting that He will do things in our lives that are going to be different than what we would do.  He will lead us to places in which we would never have thought to go and prevent us from going places in which we think we should.  His will is different for us than our will for us.  But we have to trust in Him – that His ways for our lives are the right and best way for us.  We will wonder “What are You doing with my life?” but if we will continue seeking His will for our lives, we will eventually see that the outcome is blessed in ways that we would never have imagined…in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Trusting in You is a big step to take in opening our hearts to You and the salvation that You offer to us through Your Son Jesus.  Please help us to see that Your way for our lives is a better plan than what we may want for ourselves, but in following Your plan for our lives we will be better off than anything we could ever imagine…in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
