Hebrews 10:5-10

The author of Hebrews quotes Psalm 40:6-8 as the words of Jesus spoken through the prophecy of King David and ties these words to the words of Jesus in Matthew 26:39; Mark 14:36; Luke 22:42; John 4:34, 6:38 of, “…not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42b, NKJV).  In Psalm 40:6-8 God declares and confirms that, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire…” in showing that the hearts of the people were not sincere in their worship to God.  This in itself is proof that the sacrificial system of the old covenant was not sufficient for true forgiveness/atonement for sin, but it was necessary for man to realize his insufficiencies to overcome sin by himself.  Psalm 40:8 (quoted in Hebrews 10:7) is of utmost importance in this passage as it proclaims the Bible to be written about Jesus to do the will of God.  The first was fulfilled in the second (Hebrews 10:9-10) in that the sacrifice of Jesus included the purity of blood necessary for the redeeming sacrifice to fulfill the requirement of the Law through the deity of God in Jesus that in its purity and sincerity opens the door to sanctification.

This is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Psalm 40:6-8.

This is proof that the Bible, in its entirety, is written about Jesus.

This is a promise that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law.

This is a promise that sanctification comes through Jesus.

The sacrificial system of the old covenant of the Old Testament was designed by God to bring sinners/all humanity to an understanding of the need we all have for God.  It was meant to allow us to see that we are sinful, but it doesn’t stop there as some people get caught up in as Satan tries his best to blind us to the rest of the story.  God wants us to see that He is willing to forgive our sins if we will acknowledge our need for Him.  He loves each and every one of us – no matter what your past looks like, God loves you and He longs for you to come to Him and ask Him for help – to help you overcome the things in which you feel trapped and lost in.  He sent Jesus for this very reason – to save us from sin.  Jesus died for my sins and your sins, but He will not force you to ask of His forgiveness as love offers and waits for a response.  I encourage you to respond to Jesus today and ask for His forgiveness for your sins.  Jesus will lift the burden of sin from your shoulders and give you a new life of forgiveness – if you will sincerely ask…and believe in Him.

Dear LORD,

The author of Hebrews is showing us that there is a better way – a better way in Christ Jesus.  His sincerity and purity overcame sin, death, and Satan once for all that we may receive His righteousness by asking of His forgiveness.  Please help us to see that You have a new life for us that is free from the chains of Satan – that through Jesus we can put behind us our past and begin anew in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
