Hebrews 10:35-39

The author of Hebrews is giving encouragement to those who, as believers, have experienced trials and sufferings because of their faith in Christ Jesus.  Endurance in one’s faith in Jesus is needed to continue as a believer and not allow the struggles of life to overcome them.  For enduring with confidence in Christ Jesus is sure to reap the reward in the promise of eternal spiritual life.  The author quotes from Habakkuk 2:3-4 of Jesus’ return and the faith needed for those who live in Christ.  But the warning is given for those who would fall away from believing in God and our Savior Jesus.  Drawing away from God is not in God’s will for any believer, but that to believe in, “the saving of the soul” (Hebrews 10:39b).

This is an encouragement to stand strong and endure in Christ Jesus.

This is a warning to not fall away from the confidence of salvation in Christ Jesus.

The closer one comes to Jesus, the more Satan will attack that one to try to pull them away from Jesus.  But the closer one comes to Jesus, the stronger Jesus makes that one who puts and keeps their faith in Him; growing each day in the life that God has planned for them since before they were born.  Satan will devour us if we give him the chance (1 Peter 5:8), but the name of Jesus makes Satan flee as we call on Jesus to save us from the trickery of the adversary (Satan).  Endure and have confidence in your salvation in Christ Jesus.  He is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that during trials and sufferings You are there to help us through if we call on the name of Jesus.  Satan seeks to destroy our relationship with You but cannot if we keep our focus and faith in Christ Jesus.  Please help us to overcome and receive the promise of salvation in Christ for all eternity.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
