Hebrews 10:19-25

The author of Hebrews has been comparing the insufficient sacrificial system of the old covenant to the one pure, just, and righteous sacrifice of Jesus in being the new covenant of faith in Jesus.  Under the old covenant, only the High Priest was allowed to enter the Holiest Place once a year to offer sacrifices for the people (which were still not sufficient in that they were required over and over again each year – there was no completion in the sacrifices).  Jesus offered Himself pure and sinless to take all the sins of humanity, being placed on Him through being the acceptable sacrifice in His purity, to the cross, once for all as He entered the Holiest Place, not on earth, but in heaven, and now sits at the right hand of God to intercede for all who will believe in Him.  Now, through believing in Him, we are given the boldness (in proper respect and humility to Him) to, “enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh” (Hebrews 10:19-20, NKJV).  As He, through His sacrifice for all humanity and His everlasting priesthood by the order of Melchizedek is our High Priest over the house of God (Hebrews 10:21), we should open our hearts to Him and, “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:22-23 ESV).   And through believing in Jesus, we should follow what Jesus teaches; to lift one another up in Christ Jesus and do the good works which are reflective of our relationship with our Savior Jesus.

This is an example of the confidence we should have in our Savior Jesus.

Jesus said to the woman at the well in John 4:10 (NIV), “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”  This “living water” is God’s Holy Spirit that cleanses our hearts “from an evil conscience” (Hebrews 10:22, NKJV) and into, “a new and living way” (Hebrews 10:20, NKJV) that is only found through believing in Christ Jesus.  I encourage you, if you have not yet done so, to enter into a “new and living way” (Hebrews 10:20, NKJV) by putting your faith in Christ Jesus today.

Dear LORD,

You have given us Jesus to save us from sin, a task that we cannot accomplish on our own, but only by putting our faith in Jesus in believing that He has already accomplished our salvation by taking our sins to the cross and then being raised from the grave victorious over sin, death, and Satan.  Convict our hearts that we would come to Jesus in sincere humility and ask of His forgiveness; that we would live a new life – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
