Ephesians 2:19
To start a sentence with the words “now” and/or “therefore”, means that what we have read up to this point is the background for what is about to be taught. To understand what is taught in Ephesians 2:19, we must first understand what is said leading up to it. This is very important so that we do not take the Scripture out of its proper context.
Paul is speaking to the Gentiles in saying that they are no longer strangers and foreigners to God, as they were until Jesus opened the door to salvation from sin through His death and resurrection. Both Jews and Gentiles have access by one Spirit to the Father, as stated in Ephesians 2:18 (NKJV), “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” Through Christ we become “fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” Ephesians 2:19b.
This is a promise of our citizenship in heaven through our Savior Jesus Christ.
Let us thank God for sending His Son to die on a cross, paying the penalty for our sins, and not just our own sins, but the sins of humanity, allowing even me, a Gentile, to have access to Him by His Holy Spirit which lives in me.
Dear LORD,
Thank You for sending Your One and only Son Jesus to pay the price for our sins so that we may live eternal through what He has done for us in redeeming us from sin. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
