Ephesians 1:3-4

In Ephesians 1:3–4 Paul first gives praise to God our Father and then recognizes that we have been blessed with “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,” but notice the most important next part “in Christ” (NKJV). If we are not in Christ, these blessings do not pertain to us; we must have a relationship with Christ as our personal Lord and Savior to receive these “spiritual heavenly blessings.” God chose us to have a relationship with Him. Because of our relationship with Christ, we are now holy and blameless in Christ, before God, because of His love for us.

This is a promise of our relationship with/in Christ.

This is an example of God’s love for us.

Let’s take notice of and share with others that the things written in the Bible are written in many and most cases not to everyone, but to a particular group of people. Paul is writing in this case to “To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:1b). It is important to note that if we want to experience “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”, we must then first be “faithful in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:3).

Dear Lord,

Thank You for revealing to us that Your word is directed in many cases to those who are “in Christ”. I pray that You will help us reveal this information to others in a way that will be beneficial to them. I pray that You will help us to understand that if we are not living our lives in Christ, then we should not expect “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3) to be on us. Please reveal Yourself to us all, so that we would be compelled to accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, putting off the old self and putting on the new life in Christ (Romans 6:6; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:9–10). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
