Colossians 4:7-18

In Colossians 4:7–18, the closing of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Colosse, Paul is giving commendation to those with him who are faithful in the Lord. Paul wants those in the church at Colosse to be aware of the teachers or ministers that are not going to lead them astray as many false teachers of the time were attempting to do. Also, Paul is instructing them to read this letter along with another letter that he felt would reach them (Colossians 4:16). Finally, to “take heed” or act in what has been learned so that they and those around them may grow in their faith. Paul asks that the Colossians pray for him, which represents that we all need God’s help and guidance in our daily walk with Him.

This is an example of giving commendation to the faithful believers that aid us in our walk with Jesus.

This is a command of what to do; to greet, stand perfect and complete in all the will of God, read, take heed, fulfill, remember in prayer (Colossians 4:7–18).

As the Lord led the Apostle Paul to teach the Christians at Colosse, He is leading us through this same teaching, that we can continue to learn and grow in our relationship with God through salvation in and through Christ Jesus, our relationship with our fellow Christians, and with those who God is leading us to lead to Him. We all should study this letter and Paul’s other letters (and all of the Bible), and apply what we learn in our lives to grow in Christ and to lead others to Christ. If we do, we will bring glory to Him and receive our reward in heaven (Colossians 3:24).

Dear Lord,

Thank You for giving us all the tools that we need to grow in our personal relationship with You and to follow in the footsteps of Christ Jesus. Please give us the courage to speak your word to others so that the Great Commission may be fulfilled and many may come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
