Colossians 4:5-6
The Apostle Paul teaches the congregation of the church at Colosse to be aware of those who have not received Christ as their Savior and seek an opportunity to witness to them. He teaches them to be kind with their words and to pray for the Holy Spirit to give them the words that will connect with the lost in a way that they will understand the message of the gospel and not be offended by the methods of approaching them with the good news. Paul declares in Colossians 4:6 (NKJV), “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
This is a command to share the message of the gospel with the world as Jesus taught in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46–47; John 20:21; and Acts 1:8).
We should all seek the opportunity to spread the gospel of Christ and pray for help from the Holy Spirit to connect with people in a kind and helpful way that will lead others to Christ. We are those that Paul spoke about in Ephesians 1:27–29 when he declared, “to them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” Why was the Apostle Paul such a great evangelist? Because he was striving not for his own works but for God’s working in and through his life. God wants to work in and through your life as well. Put your will aside and seek God’s will for your life and watch what wonderful things will take place in not just your life, but the lives of those God uses you to lead to Him.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Please help us to be aware of those around us who have not yet come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Bless us with Your Holy Spirit in a way that will help us to spread Your word successfully in leading others to You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
