Colossians 2:13-15
As sinful human beings, we are condemned because of the sin that is within us. Christ took this sin (our sin) upon Himself and paid the just due penalty for it when He died for us on the cross. We (as Christians) are now made alive in Christ by His dying for our sins and then rising from the dead to claim victory over sin, death, and Satan. Christ fulfilled the requirements of the Law that we are unable to accomplish. In being raised from the dead by God the Father (Colossians 2:12) Christ has defeated the power of death, “disarming principalities and powers” as is stated in Colossians 2:15 (NKJV) being victorious over them.
This is the great promise of what Christ has done for us in paying for our sins and giving us eternal life.
The Apostle Paul declares in Colossians 2:14 that Jesus, “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us,” and “having it nailed to the cross” has fulfilled the Law which was given to make us aware of sin and to show our guilt in sin. Romans 3:19–20 declares, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Jesus declared in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” We have done nothing to earn or deserve Jesus dying to pay for our sins, but we are given this freely because God loves us so much (John 3:16–17). Let’s all do our best to relay this message to those who do not know Christ Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, and to reassure each other in Christ Jesus of the great promise that we have – In Christ.
Dear Lord,
Please teach us how to reach unbelievers for You. Show us how to relay the message of what Your Son Jesus has done for us all in ways that are made clear to them so that they will understand and open their hearts to salvation in Christ Jesus. Help us Lord to lead people to You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
