Colossians 1:9

In Colossians 1:9, Paul is being encouraging to the Church at Colosse because he wants the Church to grow in the way that God wants them to. That God will give them knowledge, but not just knowledge of anything—it is knowledge of God’s will for their lives, to have wisdom concerning the things that God desires of them, and to gain understanding for the spiritual life that God has given them. Jesus declared in John 4:23-24 (NKJV), “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

This is an example of how we should pray and care for one another.

This is a promise “that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” (Colossians 1:9) as a result of praying for one another.

To be filled with the knowledge of God’s will for our lives in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9) begins with a complete submission and obedience to God through accepting Jesus as our Savior—to believe in Him, that it is He who saves us from sin and gives us inclusion in heaven for eternity. To gain all wisdom and spiritual understanding is to realize and accept that God knows best for your life, and then to begin seeking His will for your life each day. It means to understand that your own desires, no matter how passionate you may be about them, must be given up, they must be cleared out of the way, leaving an empty slate for the Lord to begin writing the things that He desires of you. If you are holding on to that one thing that you desire most, other than God’s will for your life, He will not begin writing until you let go of it. I know this from personal experience, and God did not begin filling my life with His will for me until I let go of it all—for Christ. Let’s all tell those around us today how important it is for us to pray and encourage one another in our walk with Christ. That we need each other’s support in prayer.

Dear Lord,

Please give us compassion and caring for one another to be selfless in our prayers. That we would lift our brothers and sisters in Christ up to You each day to help support each other in our daily walk with our Savior Jesus. Please guide us and mold us into that which You would have us to be and that we would seek Your ways Lord for our lives each day and support one another in fulfilling Your will for our lives—in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
