Colossians 3:5-9
The word “therefore” reminds us to review the previous passage(s) as this passage will be a result or continuation. The Apostle Paul has made a list of traits and characteristics that belong to our earthly nature. These are things that we are to leave behind as we pursue our new life in Christ. These are areas that Satan may try to tempt us with throughout our lives, even as Christians, but we are to strive to please Christ and seek His help in overcoming these things.
This is a command to leave the things of the “old man’s” nature.
Today let’s spend time in prayer and ask God to show us the areas of our lives that are hindering our growth in Christ. That He will help us rid ourselves of these things and give us the strength and humility to overcome temptation when Satan tries to make us fall.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to defeat sin and Satan so that through our faith in Him, by Your grace, we are freed from the punishment of sin and death. Help us to set our minds on things above, not on things of the earth, as the Apostle Paul teaches in Colossians 3:2. I pray Lord that You will help us to put off the deeds of the old sinful nature and put on the new nature of Christ who lives in us through Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
