Colossians 1:3-6
The Apostle Paul gives thanks to God for “the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse” (Colossians 1:2) and lets them know that he is keeping them in his prayers. He is also confirming that he has heard of their faith in Christ and that they are a loving people that have a reward in heaven. Paul confirms that they have heard this in the gospel, which is the word of truth, and that the word of truth has helped them to be fruitful. One very important note here is that Paul confirms that they are aware of the grace of God in truth (Colossians 1:6).
This is an example to give thanks to God and to pray always for one another—In Christ.
This is a promise that the gospel/good news of Christ will bring forth fruit in your lives as we learn and know the grace of God in truth.
The Apostle Paul gives us an example of a sincere heart to pray always for one another in Christ (Colossians 1:3). He also gives us the reasoning for doing so, and that is because of the hope we have in heaven, which we learn of in the message of the gospel/ the good news of our Savior Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:5). The fruit that we bring forth in our Christianity is developed through hearing the message of the gospel and learning how we can apply the lessons learned in our lives. God’s Holy Spirit works in our lives as we learn the message of the gospel, and we learn the message of the gospel through hearing and through Bible study (Colossians 1:6). Open your heart to God’s Holy Spirit through salvation in Christ Jesus and watch how He will bring forth fruit in your life.
Dear LORD,
We ask today that as we learn and know the good news of Jesus that it will lead us to be fruitful in our relationship with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. We ask that You will give us the courage to stand up for Jesus and take advantage of the opportunities that You present to us in our daily walk to spread the love that Jesus has put into our hearts. We pray that You would lead us and teach us how to be more like Christ Jesus each day. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
