Luke 24:46-49
Jesus has risen from the grave just as He said He would on the third day. He now tells His disciples that His suffering and resurrection are recorded in the Scriptures, but adds now that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, and that they should begin at Jerusalem (Luke 24:46-47). Jesus encourages His disciples by reminding them that they have witnessed these things that they will preach and that He will send His Holy Spirit (Promise of My Father) to them (Luke 24:48-49). Jesus also leaves one last instruction in Luke 24:49 – that they should wait in Jerusalem until they are filled with His Holy Spirit (power from on high).
This is the Great Commission.
We need also to be aware that as disciples (followers) of Jesus, we too are responsible to share the good news (gospel) of Jesus. That He suffered for our sins and was given as our ultimate sacrifice to pay the penalty for all sin, that we might live through Him, and that repentance and remission (to turn from and be forgiven for) of sin should be made known throughout the world. God sent His Holy spirit into the world in Acts 2 and to each of us as we confess and repent of our sins in seeking forgiveness through Jesus. Let’s share the good news of Jesus to those in our lives.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for salvation through Your one and only Son Jesus. Please guide our every step as we put our trust in Jesus and bring someone into our path so that we may share the good news of Jesus with them. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
