Luke 23:6-12

In this passage, Pilate sends Jesus to Herod because he found out that Jesus was a Galilean (Luke 23:6) and Herod was in charge of this area. It just so happens that Herod is in Jerusalem at the time and was also excited to have an opportunity to see Jesus perform some miracle (Luke 23:7-8). Herod questioned Jesus, but Jesus gave no reply, so He ordered his men to mistreat Jesus. They mocked Jesus once again as the chief priests and scribes accused Him all the more, and then sent Him back to Pilate (Luke 23:9-11). In Luke 23:12 we learn that Pilate and Herod were not the best of friends, but in giving respect to one another in the trial of Jesus, they became friends that day.

This is an example of Jesus taking upon Himself the sins of all the world, not just the Jews, as He has now been accused and beaten by the Gentile population as well.

Jesus came to save the world from sin (John 3:17) and did so because God so loved the world (John 3:16). In God’s great plan of salvation, He chose the Israelites to be an example to the world that He is the one and only true God of heaven. He sent His Son to save His people from sin, but His own rejected Him, and in doing so, He opened salvation to all that would receive Him (John 1:10-12). In His death on the cross and saving the world from sin, it was vital that the Gentile population as well as the Israelites be involved in His crucifixion. All the population of the world is either Jew or Gentile, we are all involved in the forgiveness that Jesus offers to us through His death and resurrection…if we will believe in Him, accept Him as our Lord and Savior, and receive Him into our hearts through His Holy Spirit.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for sending Jesus to save not just Your chosen people Israel from sin, but that we are all Your creation and Your great plan of salvation through life in Jesus covers all man, Jew and Gentile alike. The Apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 3:26-29 that we are all one in Christ Jesus. Thank You, LORD, for Your great plan of salvation for all who will believe (John 1:12-13). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
