Luke 10:23-24

Jesus is the Messiah; the One who came to save His people from sin (John 3:17). John the Baptist declared in John 1:29 (NKJV), “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” The Bible teaches of those who longed to see the Messiah, such as Simeon (Luke 2:25-35) and Anna (Luke 2:36-38). The ancient prophets spoke of the coming Messiah and the great works that He would do, but these disciples are the ones that Jesus has chosen to be near Him during His earthly ministry. This is a great honor, and Jesus is prompting them to pay attention to what He is allowing them to witness.

This is a blessing of Jesus on His disciples.

Jesus still teaches us through His Holy Spirit as He has given to live within us.  Jesus declares in John 14:15-18, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

It is an honor to be called by God through His Holy Spirit and accept His call on our lives as we become children of God (John 1:12-13). The Lord works in mysterious ways, and this is one of them that we can still today, through the work of His Holy Spirit, be called by Him to a new life in Him. God did not send His Holy Spirit to dwell within those who answer the call to accept Jesus until after Jesus walked the earth and then died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. God sent His Holy Spirit to be our personal guide after we accept the gift that He offers us. This gift is Jesus.

We are allowed to experience a forgiven relationship with the LORD that those of the Old Testament were unable to have. In the Old Testament, God’s Holy Spirit came and went as needed, but after Jesus paid our price to sin, He sends His Holy Spirit to live within us forever. We are blessed as were the disciples of Jesus in this passage because we too are allowed to experience life in Christ Jesus, our risen Lord and Savior, the Messiah that in the Old Testament was only hoped for.

Dear Lord,

The chosen disciples of Jesus were blessed with the presence of Jesus in their lives every day. Thank You that we too can experience Jesus in our lives every day if we will confess our sins to Him and ask of His forgiveness and accept Him into our hearts as our personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit that works in each of us as our guide to life in Christ Jesus as we submit our will to Your will for our lives. Please help us through Your Holy Spirit to bring You glory through our lives in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
