Luke 10:3

Jesus is teaching His disciples to be humble, gentle, and patient. Sharing the Gospel is not to be a forceful action, but a gift of love which must be given freely and must be received freely to complete its circle. It is the genuine love of God that touches people’s hearts and draws them to Him. To share the Gospel is sharing the good news of the kingdom of heaven, as did John the Baptist. As he came to prepare the way for One greater than he (John 1:14-15), we too, are to prepare the way for the Lord to work, as He will, in the lives of those we share His Word with.

This is a command to present ourselves with gentleness and humility; in the way that Jesus described in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12).

The attitude of the secular community is very much like that of wolves when we present them with the good news (Gospel) of Christ Jesus. We are met with hatred and discontent much of the time while making efforts to share Jesus with others. God did not force Himself on us, but He offered us a gift of His great love in sending His One and only Son to save us from sin. We too should share Jesus with love and patience while we wait for God to work in His timing in the lives of others (Luke 8:15, 1 Corinthians 13).

Dear Lord,

The ways of this world are against You and against us as followers of Jesus. Please help us to remain calm and patient in the eye of the storm that the world wages against us as we strive to share the Gospel of Jesus with those around us; that we may do our part in fulfilling Your will for our lives and our part in fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21, 30-31). Please give us strength in humility and gentleness to represent Jesus with the love that You have shown to us in calling us to You, that we would lead others through Your Word to this same love that is only found in Jesus (John 14:6). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
