READ LUKE 9:37-42
Luke 9:37-42
After Jesus and the three disciples had come down from the mountain (Luke 9:28-36), He is approached by a man seeking Him to heal his son from an evil spirit. This man has already brought his son to the disciples for healing, but Jesus’ disciples were unable to heal this man’s son from the evil spirit.
Jesus has just come down from the mountain where the transfiguration took place and Moses and Elijah were seen talking with Him. As Jesus arrives, He addresses the people in a similar way as did Moses when he came down from Mount Sinai in Exodus 32. While Jesus was on the mountain with the three disciples, the people’s faith had begun to diminish, as did the people in the time of Moses while he was up on Mount Sinai receiving the Law from God.
As Jesus draws closer to this demon possessed child, the demon leaves the child at the command of Jesus, and the child is healed. One more very important note in this passage is that as Jesus healed this child, He gave him back to his father. Jesus came to heal us all and give us back to our Father – our heavenly Father.
This is an example of our fading faith when we are out of the presence of Jesus.
This is an example of the healing power of Jesus.
This is an example of the power of Jesus being greater than the power of Satan.
This is an example that as Jesus restored this child to his father, Jesus came to restore us to our heavenly Father.
It is important that we have a daily relationship with Jesus so that we can stay focused on His will for our lives and be pleasing to Him. Just as a baseball player or any other sports figure will fade away from his or her ability to perform well at their position if they do not practice each day, we will fade away from Jesus if we are not seeking His guidance each day. Be sure to implement a prayer time and Bible study time each day with Jesus in seeking His will for your life, and you will experience growth in your relationship with Him.
Dear Lord,
It is easy for us to fade away from Your presence in the hustle and bustle of the world. Please help us to keep our focus on You each day as we make a commitment to grow in our relationship with You through prayer, study of Your Word, and fellowship with You and one another as Your children, so that our lives will be pleasing to You and that you would be glorified through our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
