Luke 8:49-56
As Jesus is saying the words, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace” (Luke 8:48, NKJV), He is informed that the one in which He was in route to see has died. The heart and soul of Jairus must have sank. But Jesus gave hope to Jairus by saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well” (Luke 8:50).
When Jesus arrived at the house, He took control of the situation. He only let those enter with Him that had faith in what He was doing, and He commanded the others to cease the activities that involved the death of the child (Luke 8:51-52). As those who did not believe in Jesus laughed at Him (Luke 8:53), He gave the command, and the little girl’s spirit to returned to her, and her life was restored (Luke 8:54).
Jesus instructed the parents to tell no one about what had happened (Luke 8:56) because the awareness of this miracle would cause the crowd to grow out of control and make it difficult for Jesus to conduct His ministry effectively. Such an event took place in Mark 1:43-45 as the Bible teaches, “And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, and said to him, ‘See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’
“However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.”
This is the power of having faith in Jesus.
Jesus healed those who came to Him, seeking Him, and having faith in Him. I do not believe that there is any record of Jesus healing anyone who did not have faith in Him. Every miracle that Jesus performed in healing was done in the belief that Jesus was the Son of God and that He had the power to heal. Those who did not believe were left outside. It is the same with heaven; those who do not believe in Jesus will be left outside. Jesus proclaimed in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the healing power of Jesus. Please help us all to believe in Him, putting our faith in Him and following Your will for our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
