Luke 8:16-18
Immediately after explaining the parable of sowing the seed, which ends with Jesus stating in Luke 8:15 (NKJV), “15But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.”, Jesus tells a parable about revealing the light. He explains the obvious; that a light is not to be covered but is to shine so that all may see it (Luke 8:16). Jesus explains that everything will be revealed by the light (Luke 8:17), and in Luke 8:18 Jesus teaches that those who are seeking Him, and seeking to understand what He is teaching, and then applying those lessons in their lives will receive more understanding and fellowship with Him, and through Him they will build their relationship with our heavenly Father. Those who are not truly seeking to gain understanding in sincerity of heart will have what little understanding they have been given, taken away.
Jesus proclaims in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” In John 3:19-21 Jesus declares, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
This is a promise that Jesus is the light.
This is a command to let the light of Jesus shine through our lives.
This is a command to hear God’s Word in the proper context.
This is a promise that God knows everything.
This is a promise that we cannot hide from God.
This is a promise that the deceitful trap of Satan will be revealed.
JESUS IS THE LIGHT! When we receive salvation in Jesus, we should let the light of Christ shine through our lives as children of God. We cannot hide from God – He knows the innermost secrets of our hearts; that’s how He knows if we are being sincere in our belief and trust in Jesus.
Satan sets a deceitful trap for us in trying to make us believe that we are doing just fine on our own road which he makes us think leads to heaven. But we cannot get to heaven without leaving our road behind and seeking God’s road for our lives. This road can only be found through sincerely inviting Jesus into our hearts to cleanse us from the sinful nature, forgiving us of our sins, and then following the road that God has for us which truly leads to eternity in heaven. Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The light of Jesus can only shine through our lives by first inviting Him into our hearts and allowing His Holy Spirit to ignite His lamp in our lives to shine as we sincerely seek to follow His road for our lives.
These things will be revealed one day when we stand before God. Will the light of Jesus be shining through your life? It will if you will sincerely open your heart to Him.
Dear Lord,
Please help us to see that whatever we have in Jesus is what’s important. Those who think that they have, but do not have Jesus, will have the deceit of Satan revealed to them as they then will realize that they have been left with nothing and will be cast out of Your presence forever. Please help us to see that the way, the truth, and the life is in and through Jesus. Please help us to make the choice to receive Him and follow Your road for our lives as we shine the light of Jesus throughout all the world. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
