Luke 7:31-35

In Luke 7:28 Jesus rebukes the Pharisees and experts in the law for not believing in Him through the teaching of John the Baptist. In Luke 7:31-35 Jesus is explaining to them (the Pharisees and experts in the law) that their hearts are hardened to the point that they are incapable of receiving the Gospel. They have raised themselves above being able to receive instruction or correction for their own lives through their own pride and arrogance. The Pharisees and experts in the law were not open to receive the teaching of John the Baptist in preparing the people for the coming of the Lord Jesus, nor were they open to receive the teaching of Jesus.

This is an example of how pride and arrogance can keep us from following the teachings of Jesus.

Pride and arrogance are not things that only the Pharisees and experts in the law are susceptible to; Satan will and does try to trap us all in the sticky web of pride and arrogance. We must always be aware of the fruit of the spirit and strive to conduct ourselves as the Apostle Paul teaches us in Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV), “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” If we will strive to grow in the fruit of the Spirit in our lives, pride and arrogance will be left out, and left behind with the sinful nature as we put on a new life in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Dear Lord,

Satan holds the proud and arrogant blind to the truth of salvation in Jesus. Please help us to do our part to set a good example for Christianity by producing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives each day. Please help us to humble ourselves to one another in showing the love of Jesus and letting His light shine through us so that the grasp of pride and arrogance may be broken and our eyes opened to salvation in Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
