Luke 6:12-16
Jesus was about to make an important decision in choosing the twelve disciples. These twelve people would become the closest people to Him throughout His earthly ministry. Before making this important decision, He prayed all night to His Father in heaven. Then, through seeking God’s will, He was able to make the right decision in choosing the twelve disciples.
This is an example of how important it is to communicate with God in prayer.
This passage brings forth a question of prayer; Have you ever spent the whole night in prayer? I know I haven’t. Jesus did. He is the Son of God and He spent the entire night in prayer seeking God’s guidance. This is the incarnate God-man seeking the advice of the Almighty God in heaven! How much more do we need to do the same!
I am not saying that we all should start praying all night, but we should take our concerns to God in prayer a whole lot more than we do. We have a tendency to want to do or accomplish things ourselves, and then, if, and when we fail, we then go to God in prayer after we have messed up our lives even further.
Try beginning your day in prayer and seeking God’s guidance before the events of the day take place. Ask Him for His help to guide your every step throughout the oncoming day, to help you make the right and proper decisions that will determine the outcome of your day, and to lead you to a deeper understanding of His love for you, and to work through you to be the person that He desires for you to be. You will be surprised at the way He will work in and through your life by putting Him first in your life and first in your day.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for showing us that even Jesus relied on spending time in prayer with You for guidance. Please help us to see that if Jesus needed Your guidance in making the proper decisions in His life and ministry, that we too need Your daily guidance so much more. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
