Luke 4:42-44
It is possible, and it appears that Jesus spent the entire night healing the sick. Luke 4:40 (NKJV) states, “When the sun was setting…” and Luke 4:42 states, “Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place.” Throughout the Gospels, Jesus would retreat to a deserted place to spend time in prayer with His Father in heaven and to rest. He also utilized this time to teach His disciples privately. It is not hard to imagine that after an entire night of healings that the people would want Him to stay with them. Jesus however, had a larger mission and purpose to all humanity and He continued, “preaching in the synagogues of Galilee” (Luke 4:44).
This is a promise that God’s love for man through His Son Jesus is not exclusive to a people or city, but inclusive to all humanity throughout the world.
We may have done things in our lives that may make us feel as if we are not wanted or cared about by God, but it is important to understand that Jesus died to pay the price for the sins that we all have committed. The Apostle Paul stated in Galatians 3:26-29, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” No matter what we have done in our past, Jesus is waiting with His arms open wide to receive us and forgive every sin we have ever committed, if we will believe in Him and ask.
Dear Lord,
Please help us to see that we all have sinned and fall short of Your glory (Romans 3:23). Please help us to see that Jesus was sent to share Your great love for humanity and pay the penalty for our sins so that we all may be forgiven through our faith in believing in Him. Please help us all to open our arms to Christ Jesus and embrace Him as He is waiting with His arms wide open to receive us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
