Luke 4:40-41

No work was allowed on the Sabbath, but after sunset the people would be allowed to travel and carry the sick to Jesus. Notice how Jesus touched “every one of them” (Luke 4:40b, NKJV). He could have brought them all together and healed them all at once to save time, but He made the time to spend with each one, to lay His hands on each one in an act of compassion as He healed each one. God wants to have a personal relationship with each one of His children, and He has made the time to do it if we will come to Him and ask.

It is believed that as Jesus healed those who were demon-possessed, He quieted them because they knew Him. If the word spread too much that He was the Messiah they would have forcefully made Him King in place of Herod. If this would have taken place, they would never have crucified Him, and the price due for the sin of man would never have been fulfilled, which is the purpose that Jesus came to this earthly world.

This is an example of the compassion of Jesus.

This is an example of the humility of Jesus.

This is an example of the power of Jesus to heal physically and spiritually.

This is a promise that Jesus is more powerful than Satan and his demons.

Jesus touched people physically and healed them. He touches us today, spiritually, through His Holy Spirit and works in us by our faith in Him. The Apostle Paul states in Romans 5:1-2, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

Dear Lord,

The people that we read about in Your Word came to Jesus because of their faith in Him to heal them of their infirmities. After Jesus left the world physically, You sent Your Holy Spirit to not only touch our lives, but to live within us spiritually, so that we may feel Your presence in our lives. Jesus proclaimed in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Please help us Lord to open our hearts to Your Holy Spirit, and by our faith believe that Jesus died for our sins, that we may be forgiven and receive the gift of salvation by Your great mercy and grace to each one of us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
