Luke 4:31-37
Notice the word “Sabbaths” is in the plural form of the word. This tells us that Jesus must have stayed in Capernaum for at least several weeks. The people were “astonished” at His teaching that was with “authority” (Luke 4:32, NKJV).
A demon-possessed man recognized Jesus, yet no one else knew Jesus for who He really was/is; the Son of God. All demons are the fallen angels that were cast out of heaven with Lucifer/Satan. The Bible teaches us in Revelation 12:3-4 that the number of the fallen angels was one third of the angels of heaven, “And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.” These demons live in the spiritual world and have no choice but to recognize Jesus as they once lived in heaven with Jesus before His incarnation. Revelation 12:9 states, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
This is the Almighty power of God in Jesus.
This is an example that Jesus is more powerful than Satan and his demons.
This is an example that Satan is more powerful than man.
This is an example that without Jesus we cannot overcome Satan.
This is an example that Jesus will cleanse us from the power of Satan if we ask and believe.
Satan and his angels are subject to Jesus as the creation is never greater than the Creator. John 1:1-3 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” Once Satan was cast out of heaven, his only purpose became to deceive the whole world of the truth of heaven. This is the spiritual battle that goes on within each of us – the battle for our souls.
It is much harder to obtain something that is worth our efforts than it is to give up on trying. Satan bombards us all with discouragement and deceit every day, but God waits patiently for each of us to decide that enough is enough and ask Him for His help. The love of God is greater than the deception of Satan. God, in being a fair and just God, allows us to make the choice for ourselves to overcome Satan, but He cannot force His love upon us, we must ask for God’s help and accept the gift of Christ Jesus for the remission of sin. God has given Satan a chance to prove himself, and he has proven that he will devour every one of us if he can keep us away from God. The choice is ours to make, and not openly accepting Jesus is falling to the deception of Satan. Choose Jesus today and begin a new life with Him.
Dear Lord,
Please open Your Word to us that we may see the deceit of Satan working against us in trying to keep us from having a relationship with You. Please help us to see that the arrogance and pride in our lives is only placed there by Satan to keep us from experiencing the true love and peace that You are waiting patiently to give us. Help us to make the choice to openly accept and believe in Jesus – the gift of love that You offer to everyone that will ask so that we may experience true love and life eternal in Him. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
