Luke 3:18-20
John the Baptist continued preaching until he was put in prison by Herod. The event concerning Herodias is recorded in Mark 6:14-29, and the involvement of John the Baptist with Herod is recorded in Mark 6:18 (NKJV), “Because John had said to Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” John the Baptist would be beheaded at the request of Herodias, and her daughter would make the request to Herod.
This is an example of the evils of this world that are against the declaration of the message of the gospel.
John the Baptist states in John 3:27-30, “John answered and said, ‘A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, “I am not the Christ,” but, “I have been sent before Him.” He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.’” The last words of John the Baptist as recorded in John 3:36 proclaim, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
Dear Lord,
John the Baptist has announced the coming of the Messiah and proclaimed repentance and baptism for the remission of sins. Jesus came as the Messiah and died for our sins so that we may have eternal life through Him. Please help us to see the importance of humbling ourselves to Jesus so that we would invite Him into our hearts to forgive us for our sins, and in so, each of us, becoming a child of God. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
