Philippians 4:10-13
In Philippians 2:25-30 Paul speaks of one sent by the church at Philippi to minister to the needs of Paul while he was in prison for sharing the message of the gospel. Paul now can see his work in them coming to fruition as he states in Philippians 4:10 (NKJV), “10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.”
Paul’s two-part lesson in Philippians 4:10-13 continues as he teaches to be content in all things and situations in Christ. He declares in Philippians 4:13, “13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Paul cried out to the Lord, and his response from the Lord is stated in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
This is a command and example to be content in all things through our salvation in Christ Jesus.
Paul has learned that we sometimes need to be placed in a position of need for us to realize our need for Christ Jesus to help us during these times. To be content in understanding that Jesus is with us always through His Holy Spirit to comfort us and to guide us through the tough times as well as the good times is a contentment that is only established through faith in Christ Jesus. We learn in 2 Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
Dear LORD,
May our good works be done in Christ Jesus and through the salvation that only He can provide through our faith and obedience to You. May our lives be content at all times, knowing that You LORD are in total control of all things. And may the peace and contentment of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reign in our hearts forever. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
