Philippians 4:8-9
In Philippians 4:8-9 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul gives six things in which we should meditate. He declares, “8Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. 9The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
This is a command to meditate – to put our focus on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report.
This is a command to meditate – to put our focus on Jesus.
In the encounter of Jesus with the woman at the well, the Bible states in John 4:25-26, “The woman said to Him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When He comes, He will tell us all things.’
“Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am He.’” In John 14:6 Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The Bible teaches us in Revelation 19:11, “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.” And in John 3:16-17 Jesus declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
Jesus is the true, the noble, the just, the pure, the lovely, and the only one of good report. Jesus saves. Put your faith and trust in Him today, and He will save you too from sin and give you a new life that is cleansed by His righteousness to the glory of God.
Dear LORD,
The Bible teaches us that there is none righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10), but that Your righteousness is revealed to us through faith in Jesus Christ for all who will believe (Romans 3:21-26). Please help us to put and keep our focus on Jesus; the one who is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, as the Apostle Paul teaches us in Philippians 4:8-9. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
