Philippians 2:14-16
The Apostle Paul declares in Philippians 2:14-16 (NKJV), “14Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
In speaking of John the Baptist, the Apostle John declares in John 1:6-9, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.” In John 8:12 Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 5:14a, 16, “You are the light of the world. . . Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This is a command to be the light of the world through Christ Jesus who lives within us through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit.
This world is full of complaining and disputing; we all are guilty of it in some way, shape, or form. As God’s children, and being representatives of Jesus in this world, we are to be the light of the world through our salvation in Christ Jesus. Our lives should be an example that draws others to a desire of what we exhibit in our lives, which is Christ Jesus living within us – our changed lives that are reflective of the light of the world that lives within us as God’s Holy Spirit shines through our lives. This, so that we all may rejoice in the day of Christ that we have not run in vain or labored in vain (Philippians 2:16).
Dear LORD,
It is easy to get caught up in the complaining and disputing that goes on in the world around us each day. Please help us to be the light of Christ Jesus that extinguishes the complaining and disputing around us and brings joy into the lives of everyone. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
