Jude 16-19

In Jude 16-19 (NKJV), Jude further explains the people/false teachers that he has been speaking of in this letter as he states, “16These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.” He then begins giving encouragement to the congregation of the churches that will read this letter as he states in Jude 17-18, “17But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.” Jude finishes this paragraph by declaring that the people he is speaking of cause divisions and are not of the Spirit (Jude 19).

This is an example of those who strive to cause divisions in the Church.

There are many people in the world today who live by their own means and seek to gain advantage in the public eye by their flattering words of persuasion. It is also true that some of these people are behind the pulpit each week preaching a false gospel message. So, how do we know if the priests and preachers we are learning from each week are teaching us the real and true message of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven? We study our Bibles, and we seek God’s guidance through prayer and His Holy Spirit working in our lives. One true way to know that our priests and pastors are preaching the true message of the gospel is to ask ourselves, “Is he preaching Jesus?” Is he preaching the message that Jesus preached as He declared in Matthew 4:17, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Dear LORD,

There are many passages in the Bible that teach us of the false teachers that will try to lead us astray from the true message of the gospel. Please help us to learn Your word as You would have it to dwell within us through Your Holy Spirit unto salvation in Christ Jesus that we may be able to discern between those You have called and those who are false. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
