2 Timothy 2:10

In 2 Timothy 2:10 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul says, “10Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.” This is being a great example, as is a theme of the entirety of Paul’s teachings. He is practicing what he is preaching. The Apostle Peter states in 1 Peter 5:10, “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

This is a promise for being an example in Christ Jesus.

From the day Jesus called Saul/Paul to open his heart to receive the mission in store for him, he has suffered. He was blinded (Acts 9), he was shipwrecked multiple times, put in prison numerous times, shipwrecked amongst other things (2 Corinthians 11:22–29). Paul truly was an example for suffering for Jesus, but he was also the recipient of many blessings because of his sufferings for Jesus. In his feeling weak, Jesus answered his prayers with, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

As we strive to follow Jesus more and more and learn to rely on the guidance of His Holy Spirit, we all suffer for our efforts as Satan strives all the more to stop us from drawing closer to Jesus. But as we grow in our relationship with Jesus, He makes us stronger and stronger. It is in these blessings that we are being perfected, as the Apostle Peter states in 1 Peter 5:10. Stay strong and know that if you were not drawing more and more toward Jesus, Satan would not try so hard to stop you; that means you are headed in the right direction.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to learn more and more each day to rely on Your Holy Spirit working in our lives to mature us in the righteousness of Christ Jesus. Thank You so much! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
