2 Timothy 2:6
To help us understand 2 Timothy 2:6 a little better, we need to review 2 Timothy 2:3 (NKJV) – the initial instruction which began this line of comparison – which states, “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
Farming is hard work and must be completed with a diligent focus in caring for the crops to nurture them to a bountiful harvest. A Christian, in comparison, must also be diligent in caring for others in leading a life that will produce a bountiful harvest of leading others to Christ through the Christian example of following God’s will for our lives. Jesus declared in Matthew 9:37, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
This is an example of the hard work and diligence required to lead others to salvation in Christ Jesus.
Jesus sent out His disciples with the words of the Great Commission as stated in all four gospel accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus: Matthew 28:18–20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46–47; and John 20:21. These words of Jesus are also reiterated in Acts 1:8 as Jesus declares, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” There is hard work to be done for Jesus, it is time for us to get up and take action to follow in sharing Jesus with the world!
Dear LORD,
We, as Christians, are Your people today to share Your love with others; to share our testimonies as to how Your have, and are working in our lives with others; to lead by the example of Jesus as we follow in His footsteps so others may see You working in our lives and be drawn to You through us. Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
