2 Timothy 1:10
The Apostle Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:10 (NKJV), “10but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” and is referring to the salvation and calling God has graciously given us in His own timing through Christ Jesus.
Not many years before Paul wrote these words, Jesus died a sinless death on the cross which was supposed to be only for those who have sinned. The Bible teaches us in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and we learn in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The importance of the sinless death of Jesus is declared in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
This is a promise of Jesus Christ taking all our sins to the cross and paying that price for us because of God’s grace to us.
Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:9 of God’s purpose and grace in Christ Jesus being given to us before time began, which is to say before He created us He had a plan, knowing beforehand what would take place and how He would handle the situation of sin. This was the knowledge of God in the Old Testament books of the Bible before Christ Jesus came into this world.
Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:10 that this has now been revealed to us in Christ Jesus; we have to wait no longer for the Messiah to come – He has already come and completed His mission and ministry on earth – He has opened the door to forgiveness and salvation from sin. The simplicity of it is that God has planned and provided for us – He has done all the work, all we have left to do is to believe it and go through the door He has opened for us in Christ Jesus. In John 10:9 Jesus declares, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.” Immediately after the death of Jesus, “the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” (Mark 15:38) which represented the separation of God presence in the temple from humanity; no one was allowed to go through the veil into the presence of God except for the high priest once a year and under strict guidelines to atone for the sins of the people (Leviticus 16). This veil was torn from top to bottom signifying that God from heaven opened the door from heaven down to earth through the sinless death of Jesus – He opened the door to heaven for us all.
Dear LORD,
You knew before time that You would send Your One and only Son Jesus to pay the price for our sins – to save us from them. Some may ask “Why would You derive such a plan?”, but we know that it is because You love us so much (John 3:16). Thank You LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
