2 Timothy 1:9
In preparation for the words written in 2 Timothy 1:9 is the lead in from 2 Timothy 1:8 (NKJV) declaring, “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God”. Paul then states, “9who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,” (2 Timothy 1:9). 9who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
This is a promise of a holy calling from God through Christ Jesus for everyone who will open their heart to Him and believe.
God saved us with a holy calling that has everything to do with His will and nothing to do with our own will. We did nothing to deserve it or earn it; God’s calling, be it a holy calling, is given to us freely by God through grace. God’s plan has been in effect since before time began and was fulfilled when Jesus professed “It is finished!” (John 19:30) as He died for our sins on the cross.
