1 Timothy 6:17
In 1 Timothy 6:17 the Apostle Paul gives advice for the rich. He instructs that they should not be haughty. Paul also instructs that the rich should not trust “in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17, NKJV).
This is a command to not trust in money but to trust in God.
We all want and desire to make a lot of money; it is the means to which we support our families and make a living. The problem that the Apostle Paul is addressing is when one puts their trust in money over trusting in God. Jesus states in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” All the things that money can buy should not be our focus – God should be; and if we put our focus on following God’s will for our lives, He will supply all our needs.
Dear LORD,
Please help us to see that You will supply all our needs – that money is not the answer to all our problems – You are. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
