1 Timothy 6:12

The Apostle Paul has instructed Timothy to flee the things of the “foolish and harmful lusts” (1 Timothy 6:9, NKJV), that are reflective of this world and the evils of Satan. He then in 1 Timothy 6:12 instructs Timothy to “12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

This is a command to hold tight to faith in God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

This is a command to reach out to God and take hold of the eternal life that He offers through His One and only Son Jesus.

This is a command to take hold of the calling God has given you as a Christian, being a child of God.

The Bible is full of encouragement as we learn in 1 Peter 5:6–7, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” The Apostle John declares in John 1:12–13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” There is strength in the words of the Apostle Paul as he encourages, “12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6:12). Do not be shy; take hold with both hands of the gift God has given you in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and be the person He has called you to be – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to not be timid of the gifts You have given us in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please help us to grasp with both hands and hold tightly to eternal life with faith that is strong and secure in Jesus our rock and strong tower. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
