1 Timothy 6:6–8
In 1 Timothy 6:6–8 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul declares, “6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.”
This is a promise that God is a refuge for us all, that we should be content with His watch over our lives.
There have been many versions of 1 Timothy 6:7, and it has been taken out of its proper context as well, but the Apostle Paul was the one who penned it and the proper context is to put our trust in God alone and not the things of this world. “7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Timothy 6:7). There is a finishing comment to this in 1 Timothy 6:8 as the Apostle Paul states, “8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” Food and clothing, nothing more. Our humility along with our spoiled rottenness should come straight to the front of our minds when we think about that statement, that we should be content with simply food and clothing as we bring our wants and needs to the LORD in prayer.
Dear LORD,
You have given us much, and we cry out for more in excess of what we really need. Thank You for the gifts You give us and please help us to see how much we have that we would be humbled in thankfulness and truly see how blessed we are – In Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
