1 Timothy 5:9–10
In 1 Timothy 5:9–10 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul shows his great interest and caring for the Church as he states, “9Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man, 10well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.”
The older woman who has been widowed is an asset to the Church and has great wisdom that can be utilized to teach the younger women in the church and to be a guide to them.
This is a promise and example that an older woman who has been widowed can be a great asset and leader in the Church.
As we all grow older, we all grow wiser through the many experiences we face in life and the lessons we learn through them. With this in mind, the Apostle Paul sees the older widowed woman not simply as one in need through her loss in life, but as an asset to teaching others in the Church which will in turn help others learn how to deal with similar issues in life that she may prepare them for. She may bring great comfort and healing to others, and by doing so may find great comfort and healing for herself as well.
Dear LORD,
We ask Your blessings on the older widowed women today, that You would bring comforting and healing to them in their loss as they reach out to bring comforting and healing to other women through their wisdom You have given them throughout their lives – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
