1 Timothy 2:1-2
The Apostle Paul has instructed Timothy to “wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience” (1 Timothy 1:18-19, NKJV). “Therefore” as we see in 1 Timothy 2:1 Paul gives further instructions for current and future preparation in ministry for Timothy. These basic instructions are for prayers – prayers for needs, prayers for others, and to give thanks to God for all He has, is, and will do as He watches over us. Paul also adds to pray for those in authority, such as the king, that everyone may live in peace with reverence to God.
This is a command to spend time in prayer each day for our needs, the needs of others, and to give thanks to God.
Some may believe that as God is in ultimate control, our prayers matter little to His outcome for humanity and the ongoings of the world. But the truth is that God longs for us to cry out to Him for our needs; to call out to Him for others who are in need; and to give Him praise and thanksgiving. God wants to build a relationship with each of us, and it is only possible if we participate in that relationship. To spend time each day in prayer with God is part of being a Christian. It is a time when we open our hearts, minds, and souls to God and receive His guidance for our lives. He wants to hear from each of us each day. Take time today and everyday to spend time with God in prayer and watch how He will work in your life.
Dear LORD,
Jesus declared in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” We are here LORD to worship You in spirit and in truth. Please help us to know that You are waiting each day to hear from us – in prayer as we seek Your will for our lives – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
