1 Timothy 1:16
In 1 Timothy 1:16 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul begins by stating, “However, for this reason,” and we want to make sure we know what that reason is. The reason is his previous statement in 1 Timothy 1:15 declaring, “that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,”. Because of this, Paul “obtained mercy” (1 Timothy 1:16). And it is because of God’s mercy on Paul/Saul that his heart was touched, changed, and moved to believing in Jesus as the Son of God sent to save the world from sin (John 1:29, 3:16-17).
This is a promise that God shows mercy to everyone who will put their faith in Him.
The author of Hebrews states in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This statement holds true for everyone who will come boldly, not as proud of oneself, but with confidence that God is merciful and gracious to those who seek Him with sincere hearts. If you are in need, and we all are in some form, come to God with humility to Him for His almighty power, and ask His help, for He is longing to fulfill your every need – in Christ.
Dear LORD,
There are some who feel unworthy to come to You because of past sins, but the truth is that we are all unworthy to come to You on our own behalf. It is through believing in Jesus as our mediator to You as He paid for our sins, and it is He who makes us worthy through our faith in Him to save us from our sins that gives us boldness to come to You and ask for Your help with our needs. We are humbled before You LORD; please help us all to find the peace that is only found in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
