2 Thessalonians 2:15

There had been a concern for the Thessalonians that false teachings had been presented to them (1 Thessalonians 2:13-16). The Apostle Paul encourages the Thessalonians in 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (NKJV), “15Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.” He is reminding them of the instructions he gave when he was with them in person and in the first letter he wrote to them concerning salvation in and through Christ Jesus. He taught in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

“Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”

This is a command to stand firm in Christ Jesus, not falling to false teachings but to test all things with the Word of God in finding the truth.

Some may teach that there are other ways to heaven outside of salvation in and through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who came to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17). I encourage you today and every day to test these things with the Bible – with what our textbook to life teaches us about all things. Jesus died for your sins and He died for my sins to save us from them if we will put our faith in Him and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead in victory over sin, death, and the devil (Romans 10:9-10). Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Dear LORD,

The devil will always give us conflict in this world to our beliefs concerning Jesus as our Savior – the Savior of the world. Please help us to stand strong, as the Apostle Paul teaches us through the guidance of Your Holy Spirit, unto the truth which is found only in Christ Jesus our Savior, the Savior of the world. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
