2 Thessalonians 2:1-2
The Thessalonians had apparently received word, in some form, that Christ Jesus had already returned and that they had been left behind. The Apostle Paul reassures them that he nor his ministry team has sent any form of communication indicating this event has passed. He declares in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 (NKJV), “1Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.”
This is an example of the false teachings that will be communicated in Satan’s attempt to make us feel that God has discarded us from His will.
We do not know the day nor the hour when Jesus will return to take us all up with Him. The Bible teaches us in Revelation 19:11-16 of the return of Jesus, and in John 5:24-30 Jesus teaches that all those in the grave will be resurrected to life or condemnation.
It is possible that because the Thessalonian Christians were being persecuted for their faith in God through salvation in Christ Jesus, that they were being told that God did not care about them. The truth is that Jesus was persecuted, and He said that we would be persecuted for our faith in Him (John 15:18-25) and He quotes the words of King David as a fulfillment of prophecy saying, “They hated Me without a cause” (John 15:25: quoted from Psalm 69:4).
Dear LORD,
Please help us to realize and understand that everyone, everywhere is persecuted at some time or another, but when we are persecuted for our faith in You, You comfort us and help us through the hardships so that we may stand strong in the day of judgment and be counted worthy in Christ Jesus. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit living within us to show us that You are real and that You are with us always. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
