1 Thessalonians 5:25

In 1 Thessalonians 5:25 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul humbles himself to the need for prayer as he asks the Thessalonians, “Brethren, pray for us.” This is such a powerful statement as it applies to the teacher as well as the student. Paul expands on this in Romans 15:30-33, “Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered from those in Judea who do not believe, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, that I may come to you with joy by the will of God, and may be refreshed together with you. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.”

This is a command to pray for one another.

These two examples of the Apostle Paul seeking help through prayer from those whom he is teaching shows us just how important prayer is for us all. It is a bond through God working in all our lives to bring us together in Christ. To beg one another through Jesus and the love of the Spirit in prayer to God for deliverance, His will for our lives in our individual callings to always be joyful in Christ Jesus and refreshed together is an outline of the command Jesus gave in John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” To show love for one another is to bring our prayers together to God for all our needs as when one is weak, another is strong. We all support one another through prayer, and it is a vital part of our Christian lives. I will pray for you. . . please pray for me too.

Dear LORD,

Today I lift us all up to You in prayer. We have different needs and are struggling with different things. I do not know the individual needs of everyone, but You do, and You are waiting for us to come to You in prayer every day with our needs, our hurts, our struggles in this world. Please hear our prayers for one another today and every day; lead us, guide us, and fill us with joy in Christ Jesus that others would see You in us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
