1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 the Apostle Paul instructs that the leaders of the church be held in high respect for their work in the Lord. Paul also adds a little note at the end of 1 Thessalonians 5:13 to, “Be at peace among yourselves.”

This is a command to give the leaders of the church high value in the community.

The leaders of the church have been called by God to the position of leading others to salvation in Christ Jesus and then nurturing that relationship unto sanctification. This is a great calling from God to the individual and is worthy of high esteem in the community (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13). It is also important to understand and realize that with this high honor comes high responsibility as the Apostle James teaches us in James 3:1-2 (NKJV), “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.”

Dear LORD,

We thank You today for our priests and pastors who are our leaders in the church. We thank You for Your calling them to teach us and lead us in understanding Your word better and of how we can apply the lessons learned to our own lives as we all seek to grow in our relationship with You through salvation in Christ Jesus. We ask Your blessings on all our priests and pastors and lift them up to You today for strength, wisdom, insight, knowledge, and understanding of Your word, and for clarity in sharing the gospel with us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
