1 Thessalonians 2:10-12

In 1 Thessalonians 2:7 the Apostle Paul compared himself and his ministry team to that of a nursing mother, and here in 1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 he uses the comparison of being a father to his own children. There are two points of importance in this passage; (1) that the priest/pastor of a church be dedicated to his congregation as that of a mother and father figure to his own children. (2) The reason why this is so important as we read in 1 Thessalonians 2:12 (NKJV), “that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”

This is a promise and example of the proper dedication of a priest/pastor in leading his congregation in their walk with God through salvation in Christ Jesus.

“To walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory” (1 Thessalonians 2:12) is the goal of all our lives in Christ Jesus. That we all would find our names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 20:15). It is the goal of the priest/pastor to lead us as directed by God’s word and the working of God’s Holy Spirit in his life; it is our duty to follow the teaching of our priest/pastor as God fills us with His Holy Spirit and guides us in our walk with God who calls us into His own kingdom and glory.

Dear LORD,

We pray today for our priests and pastors, that You would fill them each and every day with Your Holy Spirit and guide them as they guide us in Your word and walk with You through our salvation in Christ Jesus. Please help us to listen to them and learn from them as this will help us grow in our relationship with You and find our names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
