1 Thessalonians 1:5

In 1 Thessalonians 1:5 is a reaffirmation of the things the Apostle Paul has commented about the faithful in Christ of the church at Thessalonica in their labor of love and their patience of hope in Christ Jesus in the sight of God (1 Thessalonians 1:2-4). This, however, is not in prayer but to the congregation themselves for their own reassurance of their faithfulness to Christ Jesus and God the Father. They know how God’s Holy Spirit has been working in their lives and the power in which they have felt from God working in their lives. The congregation of the church at Thessalonica is also aware of the type of men that Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy are as servants of the Lord Jesus Christ – their reputation precedes them.

This is an example of the confidence we should have in our faithful relationship with God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As Christians – brothers and sisters in Christ – we should be supportive and reassuring to one another as we seek to build one another up in Christ Jesus and our daily walk with Him striving to follow in His footsteps. We all love it when we feel the power of God working in our lives, and we all fall from time to time as we cannot hold to a perfection of life in striving to do so in Christ. It is easy to support one another when things are going well, but when one of our Christian brothers or sisters hits a bump in the road – or when we hit a bump in the road – we should not allow the sinful nature to attack us by attacking one another with condescension but that we grasp hold of the humility to reach down and love one another as Jesus first loved us and be an encouragement and reassurance of God’s love for the one who is experiencing a difficult time. Sometimes it is the suffering with a fallen brother or sister that is the healing power of Jesus working through us. I know that I could do better at this, and I’m sure some of you could too.

Dear LORD,

Jesus declared in John 15:12 (NKJV), “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
