Revelation 21:2
In Revelation 21:2 (NKJV) the Apostle John sees the “holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” The Church is the bride of Christ, and all those who answer the call of God unto salvation make up the body of the Church. The New Jerusalem is the renewed place in which the Church dwells – in Christ; not as the Church formed by man through the choice one makes to put God first in their lives and proclaim Jesus their Savior, but the Church in its completion reflecting God’s sovereign calling and perfection of the Church as it was intended to be. The Apostle Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”
This is the New Jerusalem, not built by man but by God.
Jerusalem is the center for Christianity in this earthly world. It was designated by God to King David as the place in which his son Solomon would build a house for God. Jerusalem is the center for all the Old Testament celebrations including The Passover, and was the place in which Jesus was tried, convicted for sin in which He had none, and crucified for the sins of the world (John 1:29; 3:16-17).
The New Jerusalem will be the place in which Jesus reigns as Most High Priest (Psalm 110), and as the author of Hebrews proclaims, “Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man” (Hebrews 8:1-2).
Dear LORD,
This is the desire that You have put in all our hearts through Your Holy Spirit – to dwell in the eternal kingdom of Your holiness and righteousness. It is not a kingdom as on this earth in which man has formed, but a kingdom of purity in Christ Jesus, the One who saves the world from sin. May it be so in all our hearts. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
