Revelation 16:3

We learn in Revelation 16:3 (NKJV), “3Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died.” In Exodus 7:14-25, the first plague that was pronounced by God through Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and Egypt was turning the water to blood. But this water was the rivers and ponds (the fresh water for drinking) which will be addressed in the pouring out of the third bowl of God’s wrath on the earth (Revelation 16:4-7). In Revelation 16:3 the water that is turned into blood is the “sea,” and in it every living creature died.

So, the question arises, “Why the separation between the ‘sea’ and the fresh water?” The obvious reason is that the fresh water is for drinking, while the sea is not. But we then ask, “Why then is God using one of the seven bowls of His wrath on earth in the sea as God’s wrath is poured out on disobedient man who has followed Satan and his beasts who do not live in the sea but on the land?” I believe that one possibility is that as God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1) He created the creatures in the sea on the fifth day before He created man on the sixth day (Genesis 1:20-31). In the same order, God may be removing the creatures in the sea before He removes humanity. God had given man authority over all the creatures of the earth and sea; He is now stripping man of his authority in His wrath against man for being disobedient to Him.

This is the pouring out of the second bowl of God’s wrath on the earth.

These things in the Revelation of Jesus Christ may be hard for us to imagine, but in God’s wrath being poured out on the earth is His judgment against the disobedience of humanity. Imagine, if you will, all the food that we get from the sea; a great amount of our food source will be destroyed when the second bowl of God’s wrath is poured out on the earth. This will make life on earth much harder/tougher for mankind.

Dear LORD,

As the Revelation of Jesus Christ draws near and Your wrath will be poured out on the earth, please help us to realize and understand that there is still time, as long as we are living, to profess Jesus our Savior and open our hearts to Your will for our lives that we may begin a new life being set free from the chains of the devil and experience the joy that You have for us. The Apostle Paul declared in Romans 10:9-10, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Please let it be so LORD for us all. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
