Revelation 16:2

In Revelation 16:2 the angel with the first bowl of the wrath of God “poured out his bowl upon the earth,” (Revelation 16:2, NKJV). This bowl of God’s wrath only affected “the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image” (Revelation 16:2b). In Revelation 13:11-18 we learned about the beast that came up out of the earth and ordered the image of the first beast [that came up out of the sea (Revelation 13:1-10)] to be made and then gave it the ability to speak and caused all who would not worship the image to be killed. Those who complied received the mark of the beast.

An angel gave warning that all who received the mark of the beast and worshiped the beast and his image would “drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation” (Revelation 14:9-10). This first bowl of God’s wrath is being poured out on those who have remained disobedient to Him.

This is the first bowl of the wrath of God being poured out on those who have received the mark of the beast and worshiped him and his image.

The ways of this earth/earthly nature/desires may seem glamourous at first, but they will always lead to drinking the wrath of God. The ways of this world are temporary, but the ways of God are eternal, and His blessings are eternal. The momentary glory of this world always passes and then the desire for something more takes its place to begin the never-ending cycle of the sinful nature once again. Put your faith in God today and you will begin to experience a glory that never will leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5).

Dear LORD,

We have witnessed the trickery of Satan that will deceive many in the last days, and we have learned through Your Word of Your wrath that will be poured out on them. Please help us to see the way, the truth, and the life that is Jesus reaching out to us offering Your glory to fill our hearts and lives for eternity and spare us from this wrath (John 14:6). Please help us to see Jesus and our need for Him in our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
