Revelation 13:11
In Revelation 13:11 (NKJV) the Apostle John states, “11Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.” This beast coming up out of the earth “looked like” a lamb; another indication of the devil trying to “look like” God/the Lamb that was slain for our redemption (Revelation 5). Another clue to the true identity of this beast that “looked like” a lamb is the fact that he spoke like a dragon, which is the description of the devil/Satan (Revelation 12:1-9).
This is the description of the second beast, that rose up out of the earth.
Jesus saw Satan fall from heaven as he was cast to the earth (Luke 10:18). I believe that the earth was created as a place for this very reason – someplace for Satan to be sent out of heaven to plead his case against God. This “beast coming up out of the earth” (Revelation 13:11, NKJV) is coming up out of the dwelling of the devil – out of the earth. We may wonder why God would put us in such a place, but the truth is that He also put within all our hearts a desire/yearning for something more. That something more is a desire to reunite with Him. We all are striving for something more, whether it be more money, more fame, more power, more of whatever it is that you are searching for. The issue is that God, being love, (1 John 4:8, 16) cannot force us to willingly accept His love for us, we have to make the choice for ourselves as that is the way love works. When we begin to realize and understand that our desire for more is a desire for God, who will give us more than this world of the devil can ever give us, we then begin to allow God to work through His Holy Spirit to guide us to Him. The things of this world are exciting and can give fulfillment here and now, but have you noticed that they never last; there is always a continued yearning for more, for something else to fill that spot in our hearts. That spot can only be filled to completion by God through accepting His forgiveness for our sins and opening our hearts to invite Him to live with us and in us as our Savior from the evils of this world and from the devil himself. Only God can do that, and He does that through His One and only Son Jesus – the Savior of the world! Open your heart to Jesus today and be saved.
Dear LORD,
You put us in this world to be a part of the defeat of Satan. You put us in his world – a world made for Satan when You cast him out of heaven (Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:9), and You made us less powerful than the devil in that our only way to escape his wrath is by putting our faith in You through our Savior – You Son Jesus. When Satan showed how easy it was for him to overpower humanity through the temptation and fall of Adam and Eve, You knew that being the Almighty Creator of all that You could create Yourself as a human to defeat the devil in his own world. The problem for Satan now is that he cannot, nor does he have the power of creation to create a being that is more powerful than Jesus. The devil knows that he is defeated and can do nothing about it. Please open our eyes to see and our ears to hear, as Jesus announced at the beginning of two very important lessons for us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
