Revelation 12:7-9

In Revelation 12:7-9 is the birth of sin/disobedience to God as a war broke out in heaven of Satan’s attempt to overthrow God for eternal power. We learn in Revelation 12:9 (NKJV), “9So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” This, I believe, is the birth of the battle for our eternal souls as Satan tries to win our souls from God in his striving to prove himself superior to God. The angels of heaven that decided to put their faith in Satan were cast out of heaven with him. Jesus declares in Luke 10:18, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

This is the battle of the Bible that all Scripture leads us to: the battle for our eternal souls.

Have you ever wondered, “What’s the Bible all about?” This is it; the war that Satan has waged against God for eternal power above all. We were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) with an internal desire to be His. There is an internal desire in all our lives that is continually searching for something. That something is God. But we were also created in a lesser being than that of the devil, in that he has power to subdue us in the war he has waged against God – the battle for our souls to prove he can overpower God’s creation. But God is more powerful than the devil and has promised us that if we will choose, in this satanic world, to put God first in our lives, He will save us from the power of the devil. In so, we are declaring God victorious over the devil – an individual battle in our lives that declares God superior to the devil over and over and over in the world created for Satan as he was cast out of heaven. God not only has defeated Satan, but He has defeated Satan in his own world. How much more humiliating of a defeat is there? God’s great plan of salvation is not only victory in His name, but ultimate victory in the adversaries’ home court with no excuses. Choose God and be victorious in Christ and a part of the everlasting victory over the devil.

Dear LORD,

There is much to be said about this battle for our souls that Satan has waged against You for eternal power. Please help us to see that being Your children is more, so much more than simply being kind to our neighbor or giving You a tithe of our income, but that there is an eternal war waged against You for our souls, that we would stand strong against the wiles of the devil and put on victory in Christ Jesus to bring eternal glory to You through our lives – that we can claim victory over the evils of this world and be a part of Your victory over the devil – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
